        LANGTOU VILLAGE

         

         

         

          Langtou Village has a long history and profound cultural deposits. It is a genuine village ofJinshi (ranking the third in imperial examinations), cultivating 15 Jinshi, 10 Juren (candidate in provincial imperial examinations) and 15 Xiucai (scholar)in total. With a 600-year history, the beautiful ancient village now still retains 388 ancient architectures, including 34 book rooms, 18

          ancient lanes, 5 blockhouses, among which Huang's Ancestral Shrine, Guyi Duke's Book Room, Public Ancestral Temple for Lipo(i.e. Huang Hao, a sage in the county), Public Ancestral Temple for Youlan(i.e. Huang Xueji, the eldest son of Huang Hao) and Public Ancestral Temple for Liugeng are representative.

          Living in an elegant and ancient village, the local villagers still keep simple and natural traditions and customs which show grace of ancient people­ "comprehensive rites". Take how the local people celebrate their birthday as an example: it is scheduled by Langtou Village to celebrate the birthday collectively for the 60 years old and above in the whole village on every July 21st, the second day of the death anniversary of the first ancestor. Another example is that the ancient custom of fish distribution is still popular and fishes are distributed to the elderly when ponds are dried at the end of each year.

          RECOMMENDED VIEWING FOCUS

          There is "a book room every three steps" in Langtou Village. For example, "Guyi Duke's Book Room" is one built by Huang Guyi, Upright Senior Official(an official position in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty).

          Bus Route: take a shuttle costing 15 Yuan at Guangzhou Railway Station to Tanbu Town Station(about an hour) and then transfer to take a motorcycle.
